Day 6: Pushing the Limits

Today was all about endurance - both in the water and on the road. It was one of those workouts that test your patience, grit, and ability to just keep moving.

Endurance Run: 6 Miles

I started the day with a 6-mile run on the Sammamish River Trail while G was in her math class. The goal wasn’t speed but steady, consistent effort. The first couple of miles felt smooth, like I could run forever (but I really needed to go to the bathroom. I know too much information... but hey that's the life of the runner... sometimes you just need to..). By mile four, I relieved myself and it felt sooooo good.. I kept going. One step at a time, one mile at a time.

When I hit the last stretch, it wasn’t just my body carrying me - it was knowing I am almost there. Runs like this remind me why I’m training: to prove to myself that I can do hard things. Plus, the trail is flat, so it was gentle on my knees.

Endurance Swim: 1,000m

After the run, I've picked up G and we headed to YMCA. She was going to play basketball while I was swimming. The pool was busy, but this was the only time I could squeeze in the swim, so I was determined to get my swim in. Each lane already had 2 swimmers, so I asked 2 Chinese gentlemen if I could join their lane. They were clearly not thrilled to have a 3rd person to share their lane with. But as I said, I was determined. And let me add... I smoked them during the swim. While they were huffing and puffing, I zoomed back-and-forth. They clearly shouldn't be in the middle/high-speed lane. One of them left. Good! Then another, and I had the lane all to myself. I was NICE!!

1,000 meters felt like a lot, especially after the morning run, but I took it one lap at a time. I focused on keeping my strokes smooth and steady. At times I was fast, but mostly I was consistent, and that’s what mattered.

The water has this way of calming me down, even when my arms and shoulders start to tire. By the time I finished, I was exhausted but proud.

Reflections on Day 6

Endurance days are tough, but they’re also incredibly rewarding. They teach you to keep going, even when your mind is trying to negotiate a way out.

Now, it’s time to rest, refuel, and get ready for whatever tomorrow brings. One day, one workout at a time. Tomorrow is a rest day! 💪
